First, I am running Excel 2007 w/WinXP Pro
I want Excel to always open in Manual Calculation mode. To accomplish this, I created a 'dummy' workbook, set the calculation mode to manual (and unchecked calculate before save), and saved the workbook in the XLSTART folder. I also added some VBA to automatically close the workbook 1 second after it opens without prompting me to save it. This works great...for me.
I passed this workbook along to a couple of co-workers. For some, it worked just fine. For one person, it appears to work fine, in that the dummy workbook opens, then closes, and Excel is in Manual calc mode. However, for me and others, we are left with a Book1 workbook open. He is left with no workbooks open, and as soon as he opens a workbook (which happens to be saved in Automatic calculation mode) Excel reverts to Automatic calculation mode. Why does he not have a Book1 default workbook open?
