Guys i'm sorry for newbie questions.

I've just been given access to PowerBI and have a number of reports i need to migrate from another reporting tool and excel. I can access a powerbi dataset that has already been created.

I've tried googling but i want to understand before i start working that if im creating dashboards. I want to try and link some columns from the data set together that are currently in different tables with in model section. However i want to make sure this would only apply to what im doing currently and not affecting the original dataset. I also want to make sure i cannot do any accidental changes to the underlying data.

If i can is there anyway to restrict this from me. I currently only want to read the data not modify it.

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
The beauty of PowerBI... It imports data. Yes you can transform data, but never in the data sources. Also you can develop from a copy of the original file. What can go wrong?
What surprises me is the fact a newbie is given such a task without proper support or supervision (it seems). I can only hope you do have such a support and that the required level of training is given.
PowerBI is not something you simply start doing without having some kind of relevant background.
Good luck with your challenge. I do advice to read some books on the subject.

EDIT: never apologize for asking questions. It's the purpose of the forum. :-)
