I don't have any direct questions right now; I am looking for some feedback from the experts. I am starting a new project where the Director of Quality wants me to come up with a macro or something that automatically generates a document based on if a field on a current "Dashboard" = "High" or "Medium".
My ideas so far (and I don't really know how to implement them all) are:
1. Have some type of trigger that opens a Microsoft Word Template (with mail merge) -- that's where my idea here drops off though. I'm not sure how exactly I would get the mail merge to grab only records from the dashboard that coincide with that trigger.
The trigger would be something like this:
Let's say Column D is the column that is looked at for this "trigger" So, if D5's field is "High" or "Medium" Excel's Macro would open up Microsoft Word Template ProductPerformanceTR.dot
The mail merge would need to grab records based off of the Dashboard spreadsheet and only mail merge in records associated with the criteria in Row 5 (for this example). Problem lies that the real data it needs to mail merge in comes from a different worksheet tab that the criteria in Row 5 forces D5 to be either High, Medium, or Low.
2. A second idea was to just keep this idea in Excel and just have the same trigger create a new Worksheet Tab.
Well, when I was brainstorming this last night, I just felt this was a huge endless project; but then I remembered MrExcel.com and thought maybe some of the brilliant minds out there might have some feedback that might shed some light for this project idea.
Please let me know any and all ideas.
Thanks
