New message icon problem

I visit these boards daily, but in the morning when I have to catch up, as I'm going through the list, sometimes all of the new messages suddenly become marked as read.

Does this happen to anyone else?

edit -- I narrowed this down to how it happens (at least with me). If I haven't read all the new messages in a certain forum and switch to another one (like the Access forum) it wipes all the unread ones in the original forum as read, so when I go back to it there's no "new" messages.
