in my spreadsheet I have a column, B, with a series of numbers thats start with 0001 and sequential ascend upwards. These numbers reference file names etc 0001.xlsx. Each line of the spreadsheet will contain figures which have been extracted from the particular file name mentioned in column B.

my problem is that not all files have been created in Column B as yet but over time these will have been created. Is there a formula which will automatically get this data from Cell E40 in the file, say 0005.xlsx without having to redo the links when the file is created.

I am trying to do this for someone who doesn't know excel well but will help them tremendously.

PS this is my first post so hopefully my question is understood.[TABLE="width: 500"]
