I seem to run into problems just about every time I try to use the search facility on the new board.

I get messages like this almost every time:

The search term you specified (9) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

It happens on both my work PC and home one.

Might be able to help if you would provide the exact search term(s) you are getting the error with.

Hi,

Sorry, I've just realised why I'm getting it. I thought it was telling me that the length of the query was not long enough not the actual words I'm using which is the case.

The one I tried today that failed was: "count dates older than 9 months". Looking back I've also encountered errors which terms like "be" "in" "as" etc.

To me it does seem a strange restriction to put on something like this though.

if we didn't, the site would lock up every minute.
the issue you're having is because of the "9"

starl,

After searching for:

format dates in footer

I got this error message:

The search term you specified (in) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

I do not understand the problem.

Thanks.

It doesn't let you use words less than 3 characters long in your search query. It's the word "in" that's causing the problem.

Bit of a pain and I'm sure it wasn't a limit on the last board but apparently necessary.

ever notice the problems the last board had? a lot of that was caused by queries.

That I surely did and this is far better :).

I'll have to give using Google a go although I always preferred the old board's search facility to that for some odd reason.

or use quotations marks.. but 9 months is rather specific.... you really should be searching for something more general: count dates older
I mean - who cares if it's 9 months, 3 days, etc.

I found lots of posts using those search terms - one of them is bound to help.
