I hope someone can assist. I created an Excel spreadsheet using data from Access. I eliminated the columns that we did not need (i.e. email addresses) and attempted to create a formula...I am not good at this...I tried to tell (A1) If (Student ID) True NOW(). This was an epic failure. I read through a very helpful thread on this site: http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/excel-questions/672492-scan-barcode-excel-date-time-stamp-out.html. But wasn't able to tackle 2 issues: 1. Populating the date/time into the next check in field associated with the barcode and (2) how can I refresh the Excel spreadsheet with new names if I imported from Access (Will I have to manually input additional students going forward?)Here is a screenshot: Last Name First Name E-mail Address Student ID Level Room Check In Check Out Check In 2 Check Out 2 Check In 3 Check Out 3 Rohan 1373 Hi Tech Kenneth 1216 Kindergarten Jr Wade 1251 Hi Tech William 1217 Kindergarten Jr Jenna 1218 4th Grade Hi Tech Bryce 1450 Hi Tech Katie 1221 Jr

AyaAcademy,

Welcome to the MrExcel forum.

What version of Excel are you using?

Can you post a screenshot of the raw data worksheet, and, post a screenshot of the worksheet results (manually formatted by you) that you are looking for?

To post your data, you can download and install one of the following two programs:
Excel Jeanie
MrExcel HTML Maker

If you are not able to give us screenshots:
You can upload your workbook to Box Net,
sensitive data changed
mark the workbook for sharing
and provide us with a link to your workbook.

The file is at the center. I'll stop by there today to check their Excel version and will get a screenshot. Many, many thanks! I've been pulling hair out trying to figure this all out.

AyaAcademy,

Please do not quote entire replies from your helper. When quoting follow these guidelines:
1. Quote ONLY if it is needed to add clarity or context for your reply. If so, then
2. Quote ONLY the specific part of the post that is relevant - - not the entire post.

This will keep thread clutter to a minimum and make the discussion easier to follow.

Thanks hiker95 for the reply protocol and the assistance. I'm at the center today to work on the barcodes. We have Excel 2007 and the spreadsheet, so far looks like this:

AyaAcademy,

Thanks for the screenshot.

1. Does your scanner read the Student ID?

2. If so, will the scanned in Student ID always go into cell D1?

Hi! The barcode scanner is reading the student ID number. I assigned the student I'd based on the barcode. But that is all I have been able to get it to do. The barcode # goes into the cell that I'm already in and pretty much that's it.

What cell in row 1 (on your posted screenshot) will you always read/scan the barcode # into (pick only one cell)?

Yes, I would like to use A1 for that purpose. I did not know how to write the function so that when I scan the barcode info into A1 that it would detect the correct row the Student ID is already listed in and the next check in/check out cell for the date stamp.
