Need a formula

I need the following formula if possible. I have in a column example (8sq. yrds) and I need to times this number (8) by another number example ($90.00) and get the sum in another column. Is there a way to do this. I've tried getting this completed and keep running into a wall. I need to have the words in the column without separating the words into another column.

Is the value always sq. yrds?

This will extract the 8 in A1

=LEFT(A1,FIND("sq",A1)-1)

Is there a formula to take the 8 and multiply it by another number to the cell next to it?

Yep, just use *B1 or whatever cell the number is in.

So:

=LEFT(A1,FIND("sq",A1)-1)*B1
