Navigation pane disappeared

My sister recently upgraded (not her choice, it sneaked in when she wasn't looking) to SP2 on XP. Since then, she has lost the navigation pane on the left (I dont know what you'd call it). I got her the folder list back by clicking on folders, but she likes the blue bit with the tasks etc (ie, not the classic view but the other one where MS wants to lead you by the hand).

Having always been a classic view man, I have never paid attention to this blue bit and I don't know how to get it back for her. As the acknowledged "IT expert" at home, my reputation is at risk! :o

All help, pointers, hand holding, (even solutions) gratefully accepted.

Thank you.

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
I think I know what you're talking about :)

I'm doing this on Windows 2000 at the moment, but it should be close to the same thing on XP, if I'm remembering correctly. Try this:

- Open any folder
- Go to Tools\Folder Options\General tab

What you want is the heading called "Web View." Set it to "Enable Web content in folders."

I will try that in the morning when I have access to her laptop. Every one at home with any sense is in bed....

Do I thank you now, later or both? (Why do I keep getting dragged into Erik's thread?)

Thank you Kristy.

Hi!

I just had a look on my computer here at home--that has XP. The dialog is a little different.

So try:
- Open any folder
- Go to Tools\Folder Options\General tab

Under the heading of "Tasks", select "Show common tasks in folders"

Great Kirsty, thanks again. I can now do magic and make the task thingy appear and disappear at will.

Kind regards

er..not quite. It works on the desktop I am using, but her laptop, after a lot of research after failing on Kristy's two suggestions, has revealed a possible virus infection. Brontok.A is a worm that disaables folder options, registry entries, system admin rights, anything that might allow the user to kill the #@!@#$ thing.

Ah well, looks like very little mrexcelling for me today. (By the way, if googling can make it to the dictionary, can we think of something to describe what we do in this forum and send it to Websters?)
