I have a spreadsheet that users need to use to scan in bar codes. When they try to scan the bar code the cell populates with #NAME ?

The cell is formatted as General

Any thoughts about what is causing this?

If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
There is nothing in the cell. The user is supposed to click the cell so it becomes the active cell, then scan the bar code.

I've worked with barcode scanners before. By what you're describing, it sounds like the driver for the barcode scanner isn't properly installed. Usually, it just adds a serial number to the cell. I'm checking with another person.

Confirmed. Plug and play. Reinstall the driver or get a new driver from the manufacturer.
