MS Word footer problem

Having a problem getting page numbers at the bottom of my Word document. I originally put the page numbers in and it worked fine. I then needed to add a header, which automatically added a footer. When the footer appeared, it took my page numbers and made them all (example) 1. There are options in the header\footer toolbar to add page numbers. It gives me pretty much the same options as in adding normal page numbers without headers & footers. When I select the option I need, it puts the same number on each page in the footer.

Anyone come across this before and know how to fix it?

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Thanks,
I looked a bit for a word forum before asking here. That's why I put the question in this section.

Hi

Sounds like you haven't really added a field for the page number.
It should have a grey area on it when the mouse covers it and if you right click on it an option to toggle the field code.
Other than that I would check to see that you haven't introduce another section break in your pages.
