I have written a document in Word 2007 and now when I open it in 2010, the 2nd-2nd to last footnotes are all doubled so it would have footnote 1,2,3,4,2,3,4,5 and nothing seems to make this deviate, delete 3 and it becomes 1,2,3,2,3,4 etc.

Excel Facts

Ambidextrous Undo
Undo last command with Ctrl+Z or Alt+Backspace. If you use the Undo icon in the QAT, open the drop-down arrow to undo up to 100 steps.
That sounds like the kind of thing that might happen if you had 'track changes' on whilst adding/deleting or moving text containing footnotes, or adding/deleting or moving the footnotes themselves and Word 2010 is configured to show the changes.
