MS-Outlook, Form, "message" control, edit text

I have created a specialized form complete with drop-down menus. The "signature" text automatically came into the "message" control (aka "item"). I want to alter that text but the message control does not have an option to edit the text nor is there a "value" tab in the properties dialog box. Also, clicking or double-clicking within the control does not engage editing.

Here is what I have found subsequent to this post:

Though not quite what I wanted, it is possible to open the OFT as if preparing an out-going email. Then change the signature block and save it again as a template. This, however, does not affect the "published" version of the file.
