Awesome. There is a video on the 'net with Microsoft's Donald Farmer showing off a new add-in called Gemini. This is an amazing product. In Episode 975, I point out where you can get a sneak peak at Excel 2010 pivot tables in the Donald Farmer video.

This video is the podcast companion to the book, Learn Excel 97-2007 from MrExcel. Download a new two minute video every workday to learn one of the 377 tips from the book!

Hey! Welcome back to the Mr. Excel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen.
Basically, you start out with massive amount of data.
How we're going to analyze as well.
Let's fire up a pivot table.
See if we can solve this problem.
Awesome!
Hey! Welcome back to MrExcel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen.
Well, last week I was out of Microsoft and had a chance to spend a couple of days with the Excel project managers, to see what's coming in.
Excel 2010 and the version after that and I saw lots of great things.
Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to tell you about any of those because I'm under NDA and I hate to tease you there.
But I found a great public video that you can watch and see some of the things that are coming in the near future.
Now, let me introduce a problem here.
I have a data set.
I want to create a pivot table and so in Excel 2007, I maybe put products, downside.
Regions across the top, revenue and profit in the pivot table and then I put customer in the report filter area.
Now, new in 2007 we could say, I want to select multiple items.
Unselect all and then choose a few different customers, and it will filter to those customers.
But unfortunately, the tag here just says multiple items and that's very frustrating.
If you print this you know to come back a few months later.
Well, which items were in there.
Don't know, it's not a very satisfying way to go.
I found that video out on the website.
This is a fellow, named Donald Farmer.
I made a tiny url. tinyurl.com/cssvcj Want you to go out there, and when it loads, I don't want you to watch the whole video.
It's a long, long video.
I want you to grab the the time slider down here and move ahead to 1 hour 31 minutes and 30 seconds, to get to this particular section.
Donald happens to be working in Excel 2010.
Building a pivot table and what you're going to see is when he adds a field to the report filter area.
Instead of giving us just the two cells that we get.
Now, you're going to see something up here called a slicer and so, Donald explains, exactly how a slicer works.
He kind of shows it in the video, might be a clue as to something they're thinking about doing in Excel 2010.
So, one thing there.
The other thing, you're a person that deals with lots and lots of data needs to combine data from different sheets and then do analysis from that.
I want you to come to the same video and go back to the 1 hour and 27 minute mark.
At the 1 hour 27 minutes, about a 5 minute.
You'll see Donald Farmer, go through a new ad-in called Gemini.
That's the code name for it.
In the video Donald takes a 20 million row data set on one sheet and then data that he scraped from a web page on another sheet.
Creates a pivot table from the two sheets and does the analysis.
It is simply amazing to watch this demo in the video.
20 million rows, and it just sorts and filters, like it was nothing.
I saw a demo of Gemini.
As a former data analyst, I understand that this add-in changes everything.
If you're a person who's doing business intelligence in Excel, you have lots of records or you need to marry up to different data sets.
You're going to have to try this out and once you see it.
You'll be buying Excel 2010.
You'll be getting the Gemini add-in, absolutely amazing after the demo.
I went to Donald Farmer, and I begged.
I said, "I absolutely have to be on this first data." This is going to be amazing.
So, a couple of things there.
I wish, I could tell you everything that's coming in Excel 2010.
Lots of good things.
I did find these two things, that are out here in this public video.
That kind of give you a glimpse, to what's coming.
Well, I want to thank you for stopping by, we'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
