Hey welcome back to the MBExcel netcast. I'm bill Jelen.
Today we have a question sent in by John. Jon's from New York.
John want to know if there's a way in excel to create the Fibonacci sequence, and this is a sequence of numbers.
It always starts off 01 but then after that the basic rule is that each number is the sum of the two previous numbers and this is really easy to do in excel.
Basically we're going to enter a formula here that says = and I'm going to use the up arrow to go back and grab the previous number and then the + and the up arrow twice to go back and grab the number. Two numbers before that. So we have 0 1 1.
Now I take that formula, I go back to the cell that has that formula.
I want to grab the fill handle.
The fill handle is a little square dot in the lower right hand corner.
I'm going to click on that fill handle and drag down.
Depending on how far down I drag, it will extend the fibonacci sequence in that manner.
Very easy to create a Fibonacci.
One of the perfect things for excel. We see this a lot of times in classroom settings, they have the kids create a Fibonacci sequence just to show them how easy it is to enter one formula and copy that formula down to all ourselves.
So thanks to John for sending in this question and thanks to you for stopping by.
We'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
