Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast. I'm bill Jelen.
Today we have a great question sent in from Jennifer, Jennifer's from Illinois.
She said she was watching Podcast 612 that's where I talked about customizing all future workbooks that way you would have to change your margins or anything like that, and she said well Hey, can I set up a few different templates like for example, we bid different customer projects and the bid template for customer A has certain columns and the bid template for customer B has other columns and I'd like to basically be able to open one or the other and sure you can do that. So here I've set up a bid template in green for customer DEF. We use "file" "save as" and the trick is in the "save as" type.
We want to change it to a template and excel automatically then navigates down into the templates folder and so what I'll do is, I'll call this customer DEF and click "save" and now in my other file, the template for customer ABC. I'll save that file "save as" save it as a template again and again as soon as you choose templates, it automatically navigates into the templates folder.
We will call that Customer ABC.
Clicks it and then here's what happens. Let's say on a future day, we need to create a proposal for ABC, rather than using the new icon in the toolbar we're going to go to "File" "New" and then choose "templates on my computer".
We'll get a list of all the templates available.
So if I'm creating a proposal for ABC i'll choose them.
Click ok and what I get is a brand new file that has all of the headings for ABC if I instead choose "file" "new" and would choose "templates on my computer".
and then customer DEF.
click "OK" I get all of the headings for DEF.
So you can set up as many of these as you want, just save them in the templates folder, and you're good to go.
Thanks to Jennifer for sending in that question and thanks to you for stopping by.
See you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
