Hey, welcome back to the Mr. Excel Netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen. Yesterday Joe sent in a question about using custom auto filters in excel 2003.
Made me think of the great improvements that Microsoft has added to excel 2007.
so I thought I'd take a quick look at the feature in excel 2007.
The first big thing is that they've renamed it and the auto filter is now just called filter in excel 2007.
Choose one cell and hit the filter icon that's on the data tab of the ribbon and again, we have the dropdowns at the top.
one interesting thing now is instead of being able to select just one item, we can select Multiple items, so if I want to see these five items, I can check them and there's no hassle with that and it's also always interesting to look on the special filter so in text filters here, we have the same choices that we had in excel 2003 but if we go over to the date field and we look at the special filters We can choose all kinds of virtual filters.
Like everything that happened today, yesterday, last week, last month, next month, this quarter and so on.
It's also interesting that they automatically grouped the date fields upto months.
This was a question from a Podcast, week or 2 ago in excel 2003.
We had a format the field is showing the months Now in Excel 2007 It's easy to do.
The last thing they did and it's pretty wild.
You'll see that I added a few green cells here.
Is the new Filter by color where we can say we just want to see the green cells and it will bring those up.
So auto filter and excel 2007 is now called filter.
They've added some great new date filters.
Made it easier to select multiple items not just two items like you can get to in excel 2003 but any number of items and also the great filter by color.
So eventually when your company decides to upgrade, 2010, 2014. Who knows you'll be able to look forward to these cool new features.
Hey, thanks for stopping by.
We'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
