Before I was MrExcel, I was making rock'n'roll player piano rolls.
We grew up with a player piano in the basement.
With all kinds of rolls like “Yes, We Have No Bananas”, but there was no Led Zeppelin. So I started arranging songs for a player piano.
Using a spreadsheet.
I would transcribe each note from the sheet music to Excel.
There were columns for measure, beat, which note, and duration.
I used a lot of copy and paste plus Paste Special Add to produce four-handed arrangements.
Learning HTML to build this old website, gave me the skills to start MrExcel.com in 1998.
These rolls, they're all in a museum in my hometown of Salem, Ohio. Many have been autographed by the artist.
Over the years, I've met Meat Loaf, Nils Lofgren, Roy Bitten, and Marc Cohn, just to name a few.
That's my favorite spreadsheet. What's yours?
