than are allowed in the current file format."

All I'm trying to do is add quite a few cells (around 100) that are not in sequential order and I keep getting this error message. What am I doing wrong? Or, how do I fix this?

what function are you using, if it is a .xls file then often save as .xlsx will improve the number allowed but not always
