MonthName Function

Can anyone help me write a macro for a school project I am working on? I think I need to use a MonthName function, I'm not sure how though. The question is:

Write a Macro, that will put the employee’s month of birth in column “Birth Month”, for each employee in the database. Month should be in text, e.g., March, May etc. Must write VBA code from scratch.

The following is a sample of the worksheet, The Range for the following on my worksheet is A8:M61 and the "Birth Month" column where the name of the month goes is M8.

Hello Rick

My thoughts exactly, however, it worked, didn’t it? Though it sounds as if he/she are expected to write a VBA macro, so I doubt the instructor would accept the answer given here. Now why couldn’t I have found a site like this when I was in university?

The way you worded your question, it sounded like you were asking us to give you the full VB code for it, which we will not (or at least should not) do. I'll give you a hint, though. Look at Message #3 , the VB equivalent function is Format... look up the help files for Format and see if you can work out the code from that.

Given your apparent insistence (need?) to use the MonthName function, I may have steered you slightly wrong in my previous posting. The Format function can be made to do the same thing as the MonthName function, so you would use either one or the other of them to assign the month name to the active cell. The problem I have with using the MonthName function is you need the month number of the date to get the month name whereas the Format function can give you the month name directly from the date. i am hoping what I said here is enough to lead you to a solution. If not, post back asking for clarification, but tell us what it is that is unclear to you. My (our) hope is to lead you to developing the solution on your own as that will stick with you more for use in future coding than if we simply give you the answer.

I do appreciate the help I have received from this forum and my goal is to learn, and for what I learn to stick. I am using the MonthName function because that is the function the professor taught. I may be mistaken, but would Format only reformat the dates in "Date of birth" (column H) to display the month name? What I am trying to do is use the dates in column "H" to display the "birth month" in column "M". Prior to trying to add Format to the code, I was using the same code I posted, but without Format in it.
