Consolas is a nice Windows font alternative to the very old Courier. Consolas is my default font in Excel
If you don't like Consolas, Source Code Pro, the Liberation font family, and the DejaVu font family are easy to find, include good monospace fonts, cover lots of Unicode, have permissive licenses , work well in Windows, and are free. I use DejaVu Sans mono in Vim and Notepad++.
