Hey all,
I'm trying to look at the last character in a cell and determine what it is. If it's an asterisk (*), I want it counted. So I assume that's some blend of countif and right, but the hangup is the length of the characters in the cell can vary; some are ABC123, some are AB123456, etc. Any suggestions on how I can make that work?
Thanks!

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Try
=COUNTIF(A:A, "*~*")

The first * is a pattern matching character.
The ~* tells Excel that the second * is its own character, not a pattern matching character.

The formula says "Count the entries in A:A than are (anything) followed by a *"

COUNTIF(A:A, "*x") would count the cells that end in "x"

Yup, that did it! I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to get it to recognize the asterisk as the character I was looking for. Thanks!!!
