The accounting software we use when dumping financial data to Excel does so in a way that we can't just select the cells and change the format but must enter the cell (F2) and press enter and on to the next cell and that changes it to being recognized as a number.

Is there any way to execute in one go the equivalent of entering a cell and going to the next using F2?

You could just copy a blank cell. Select your entire range, right click, click on Paste Special, click on Add. Click OK. Done, they're all converted to numbers.
