Merging cells in Excel inserted into Word

I am having difficulty with merged cells.
I can merge cells in Excel and in Word,
but when I move a spreadsheet with a merged header from Excel to Word the header "unmerges". Worse yet when I then attempt to merge the cells in Word the merged cells double in height and I cannot reduce the height.
The header then looks rediculous and does not match the email with the spreadsheet nor the saved (in the team room) spreadsheet.

How do I retain the merged cells and height of the banner over the inserted table?

I have tried using screen saver, but some of the tables I am inserting are over 2 pages long and do not paint well.

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
Hi bobncinci,

If you get Word to display it's formatting marks, you may see that, after merging, the problem cells have extra paragraph marks. In any event, Word's table formatting tools should allow you to set a row's height regardless of the cell's contents.
