Merging / Appending Queries vs. loading to table?

I'm just wondering whether I am searching for the solution to something that is not possible...

I would like to reduce the size of my workbooks by avoiding loading queries to tables. However, it seems you have to load to table if you want to then merge and/or append queries.

Or... Is there a way to merge/append from a "Connection Only" query rather than one loaded to a table?

Thanks

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December

You can most certainly merge/append a query which is "Connection Only". When you select merge or append, "Connection Only" queries should still show up in your list.

I did try that but perhaps I was not looking carefully enough at my list of tables to merge. I'll take another look tomorrow.
Thank you!
