Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
If you have MAXIFS, try
=MAXIFS($B$2:$B$7,$A$2:$A$7,A2)

otherwise
=MAX(IF($A$2:$A$7=A2,$B$2:$B$7))
This needs to be confirmed with Ctrl Shift Enter, rather than just Enter

=MAX(IF($A$2:$A$7=A2,$B$2:$B$7)) seems to give me the largest value from the entire range but not for each month.
I have used the fill down function to drage the formula down, Do I need to try something? And again I appreciate your help

Did you confirm it with Ctrl Shift Enter?
If so you shold see the formula wrapped in {}

Select the first cell the formula is in, press F2, then Ctrl Shift Enter, then drag the formula down.
