There's probably a simple way to do this but I keep tripping over something.
I have two columns with team abbreviations, one simply says whether they are AL or NL the other is the result of a search with multiple occurrences of the team name. I need to match the long list with the short and put the column header AL or NL in the adjacent cell. I tried a few things and searched through here but am tired of killing myself :eeek: staring at these and feeling silly.
I'm using Excel 2007
The last formula I tried was =INDEX($AY$1,MATCH(BB2,$AY$2:$AY$15,0),0)
And here's the screen shot.

I've hidden my weapons so I won't shoot myself when I see where I screwed up. Thanks ins advance
