The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).

for me "IFERROR" is the revelation of Excel 2007 :-)
IFERROR(timexpensive formula, "yourstring")

That is good - I just skimmed it and I found the bit on "Period to date sums" absolutely fascinating. Maybe this is obvious to everyone else (?) but to me just having the explanation there in black and white really made me think and consider the problem.

My recent questions on the board have been about it, one way or another at least, and that helped me understand the differences in calculation methods and how its performed.

That said, I am trying not to think about the best option being just to rebuild three of the most "changed over time" workbooks I use daily... :eek2:
