Make sheet tab size smaller

I'm using office 365 on a macbook.
My tab sizes have suddenly changed. I have spreadsheet with a few sheets, there are 12 tabs, one for each month.
Apr, May, Jun etc...
Now, they are quite a bit larger, they used to be as big as the characters in them. How do I change them back to be as big as the number of characters?

I think in 365 you can only affect the tab size by changing the window font size
