Mail merge problem

i have an access 2003 database that calls an ms word 2003 document which has a mail merge in it. it pulls its data from the access database table i created. this works fine and the right fields end up in the right places if i just call us ms word and load the document by hand . But, when i run a button on the access form and the ms word document loads it stops at the template document and will not put the data from the database into the fields. How do i get the ms word doc to come up and actually run with the data from the database? Thanks
