Macro speeds between 365 and Excel 2021

I have a macro that I record when it starts and ends. The macro can run up a few hours depending on the amount of data being analyzed. I have started to use another computer to run it so I can continue to work in excel. I have 3 computers, one with office 365, one with office 2021 and one with office 2016. There is a considerable speed difference running the same macro analyzing the same data. I would expect 2016 to be a little slower perhaps but I was surprised that 2021 was up to 8x slower that 365. Anyone know why? 2016 was at least 2x slower as 2021.

What are the individual specifications of the machines as well, memory, processor, hdd or SSD etc etc
There is also settings within excel to enable or disable multiple processors

The first PC has an app called PC info with most of that in it, the second one I had to go into settings/system/about and settings/system/storage

Hello,

Well, as jim poited out, you know that computer performances are heavily related to the hardware. For Excel among other things CPU is essential. Look at the gap between your two CPUs : i7-11850H vs Pentium Silver N5030 [11-Benchmark Showdown]

You have a more modern high-end CPU (the i7) vs an entry older one. The performance gap is due to this, more than the office version. Especially for identical single-threaded VBA code (faster on CPU with higher GHz).

There might be benchmark software around providing you or your organisation will allow you to run it that way you might get an idea of processor speeds and comparisons

Number of active cores as well as I alluded to you can check the cores allocated in excel hidden in the options section
