Macro code to check for dead hyperlinks pointing to network folders?

Hi all,
I've searched around and am mostly coming up with code to check for actual URLs that point to http sites. I'm looking for one that can run through my sheet of links that direct to other files and folders within my network, ensure they point to a link that can be opened, and return the proper results.

Columns B and C have links to network files and folders while column D links to an Intranet area. In a perfect world I'd be able to check all 3 of these columns and it would highlight the cell red if that cell leads to a dead link. I did find one macro that was geared towards this but could not get it to work and, of course, don't recall where I found it or what the code even was. Any tips or help is greatly appreciated!

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
Try using the Shell function to open the folders... i assume if they dont exist you will get an error, maybe you can handle the error with On Error Goto ...

I'm not familiar with a Shell function and an internet search regarding it didn't really provide any results that seemed helpful to me.
