Lost spreadsheets

The file icon is on my desktop. When I open the file, excel opens...but instead of having a spreadsheet, the screen is gray. I KNOW that the data is there, I just can't FIND it! I have expanded the workspace as much as it will grow, and given my screens the maximum resolution that I can in hopes that I could see an EDGE of the workspace for me to grab and pull back---but it is NOWHERE!!

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

If you go to the Menu Bar at top, click DEVELOPER, then VISUAL BASIC so you can get to the VBE window ....

do you see this ?

If so, right click on any of the sheet names and select VIEW OBJECT.

When you state "I have expanded the workspace" do you mean you have maximised the Excel window?
Asking because normally when I see posts about a grey screen it is just because the Excel window has been minimised and dragged out of view.

If you slide your cursor to the top of the status bar does it turn into a double arrow?

If you're using Excel 2010, from the ribbon try View >> Arrange all >> and then click OK in the pop-up dialog box.
Also, from the View menu, try the Unhide Window selection.
