Hi,
I have a folder of datasheets in a folder on a mapped drive N:\Datasheets
All the computers in our office have N: drive mapped.

I can insert a hyperlink to a file using the toolbar that displays as N:\testfile.pdf but if the mouse is located over the cell it shows
file:///\my_computer\Datasheets\testfile.pdf

I can also use the hyperlink function =HYPERLINK("N:\testfile.pdf") to create a hyperlink

Both of these open the file when accessed from excel.

If I save the excel document as a pdf using the save as function the link created by the HYPERLINK function is lost.

I would like to use the HYPERLINK function in a template but cannot get it to maintain the link when saved as a pdf

Any advice appreciated
Thank You

Re: Loosing Hyperlink when Excel saved as pdf

A simple solution would be to run a macro which converts all cells with =HYPERLINK functions to links and then save the workbook as a PDF. Would this be acceptable and are they simple formulas, like your example?

If you don't want to convert the =HYPERLINK formulas you would probably need a macro which calls the Acrobat API to read the PDF file and identify the text which should be links and change the text to a link. However Acrobat API is only available in Acrobat Pro, not the free Adobe Reader.

Re: Loosing Hyperlink when Excel saved as pdf

Hi, I wrote a macro to convert the text into a hyperlink

The link is displayed as
\\N:\Electronic Components\ST\LD1117.pdf

but if you hold the mouse over it the hyperlink reads

file:///\\localhost\Altium Libraries\Electronic Components\ST\LD1117.pdf
and it works in excel

After using save as to a pdf
The hyperlink is in the pdf
and displayed as
\\N:\Electronic Components\ST\LD1117.pdf
but the file name is
file://localhost/Altium Libraries/Electronic Components/ST/LD1117.pdf
the slashes are reversed and some missing at the start.

Any advice about what is causing the change would be appreciated
Thank You
