Dear valued forum friends, I hope the below explains what I am trying to acheive. I am trying to do a lookup in workbook1 say based on the values in work book 2 . If and only if the values match exactly I want to return the gl number (i.e. 100100 in workbook 1 to workbook 2. Thanks so much.

Hi,

When there are different workbooks it makes things harder.
There are some good links around tho, I would however atleast use the Index-Match approach instead of the Lookup.

In this instance, the red parts are referencint another workbook then where this formula is placed, the blue are named ranges from that workbook.

Look around for explenations on the Index-match formula if its new to you.
