I am a staff manager at a major telco with has a programmer under contract who query raw data from the internal databases. The programmer's contract is being cut and I will need the ability to query the databases myself. I have learned basic SQL but my skills are not adequate for the kinds of queries needed.

I am looking for a program that is able to connect to various databases, join tables, and construct queries without writing SQL code.

I have trialed Tableau, which has this functionality. However, the queries are much slower than SQL Assistant to the point where it is not functionally useful.

The goal is just to be able to extract raw data to use within Excel. Are there any programs which can perform this function?

Would appreciate any input.

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Try using Access. you can link to the database tables, and Access has a pretty good query builder. I have used it to pull data from SQL Server databases and it works well.
Access also inerfaces well with Excel.

I guess another option is to use Crystal Reports, which is widely used as a reporting tool for SQL Server.

Thank you, Denis. I downloaded WinSQL, and it looks good for freeware. The querybuilder is in the Professional Version, so will have to make a purchase decision between this and Tableau.
