Looking for average # of days from x to y, but want to exclude weekends in equation

Hi. I'm not the most sophisticated Excel user so this may be an easy one to most everyone but me. I'm working with a web-based data collection and reporting application wherein users have a certain # of days from the date of an interview until they enter the information gathered from that interview into this computer application. The # of days they have to enter the data varies from 3 to 7 to 10 depending on various factors.

So I need to know the average time between date of interview and the date that the information was input into a computer data collection application to see if the users are getting the data entered in a timely fashion. To be fair, I need to exclude weekends from the equation. (Ex. If an interview occurs on a Friday and for this interview they have 3 days to input the data, the clock should stop ticking over the weekend and start again on Monday.)

The application can give me the date of the interview and the date that the data was entered. However I don't know how to build a formula/lookup... that will determine the actual # of "business days" between the interview date and the data input date.

I have to do this for numerous data records. Can anyone help me understand how I would do that in Excel?

Thank you.
