List of unique values and counting non-blank in certain column with corresponding rows

Hi,

This is my first post! Hopefully I'm doing this right! Thank you for your help!

I'm working on a spreadsheet to track shift requests - my issue is that one request can request for multiple shifts. I've created a system to generate request numbers but I'm looking to count the number of shifts per request that have been fulfilled. I've made a countif column to count the total requests per request number and currently I'm manually copying and pasting the request numbers on a separate sheet.


What I'm looking for:
- create a list of unique values from column 1 on a separate sheet
- count the number of non-blank items per request number

I think the simplest solution is to use a PivotTable. Would that be okay?

I'm not as great with PivotTables but as I understand it, it only selects a certain area and it only captures a moment in time. I'm hoping for something that can constantly be changed and added to. I'm really hoping for a formula that I can copy for pretty much the whole column.
