so i have a workbook that's linked to another workbook...but the links aren't updating!

the only way I can update the links is if

1) i manually go to the cell then enter again

or

2) go to "data" -- > "edit links" --> "update values"

or

3) i open both workbooks (workbook with links and the workbook that's the source)

it's driving me nuts..........i even tried in the VBA window "forcefullcalculation" = true, but no avail...and yes, the calculations are set to automatic, not manual

Excel Facts

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
Don't the links update when you open the workbook?

In options > Advanced, When calculating this workbook, is Update links to other workbooks ticked?

yes they update only if i open the source workbook

eg

workbook 1= contains the links

workbook 2 = the data that the links refer it (the source)

workbook 1...the links only update if i workbook 2 or the other two ways as mentioned in my original piost

Does Ctrl+Alt+F9 work?

what's interesting is that....when i recorded a macro to open the workbook that contains links...the recorder put updatelinks:=0 ....yet I enter "edit links"...the default value is "don't prompt and UPDATE values"......

the only workaround ive found is just to open the source file and linked file at the same time and save it...ah well
