I have an issue with a linked excel file. My data comes in as short Text cutting off the data and I cannot get Access to change the field I need changed to Long Text. I do not see an option to change it to Long Text when I import it either. Any idea how I can resolve this issue?

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK

Don't know what this means. A linked spreadsheet should be displaying all the characters that the cell can handle. To be certain, I tested this and can see over 3,000 characters, both in the Excel sheet and the linked table in Access, regardless whether the spreadsheet cell is formatted as General or Text. So are you saying that you have linked, and not imported, the spreadsheet and in the Access view of the linked table that the data is truncated? You haven't really said if there is a problem with the data itself or if you're just wanting to change field data types.

As for the linked table field properties, these are set by Access, whereby the type is determined by examining a number of spreadsheet rows (I have read that this is 8) and can't be modified in the linked table. It's common to import or link the spreadsheet, then use a query to append the data to a native Access table whose field types have been correctly set.
