I have not seen this format in a formula before.
i understand the formula LINEST(), I've used it before
what i dont understand are-
-the curly brackets before and after the formula
-the carrot with the numbers in curly brackets.

can someone explain their purpose? Excel help is worthless for something like this.

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I'm not too familiar with the function the brackets indicate an array so rather than selecting a group of cells for the x whoever wrote this formula chose to have the known x's as 1,2 and 3

who ever created the brackets put those in the formula themselves. The ^ simply raises to the power of.

The curly brackets outside the formula will have been placed there by excel when the creator used an array within the formula he/she will have needed to press control shift and enter to get the formula to work as an array.

If you pressed F2 to view the formula in the cell and then just pressed enter, the formula would not work properly
