Linespacing formatting in excel not pulling through to docvariable

I have a spreadsheet which populates a word template using docvariables.

within some of the cells sheet are some paragraphs of text separated by line spaces either by Alt+ Enter or text which has been copied from word and pasted into excel. The text looks correct when looking in the cell but when it is transferred to the docvariable it just shows all of the text on one line.

Any ideas on how to force the linespacing to show correctly in a docvariable without concatenation?

Many thanks
