Limitations to Excel VBA - where to go from here?

I developed a POS system using excel vba. Now, multiple cashiers have to write to the same excel file simultaneously and I can't seem to overcome this limitation. The problem is that I need a locally hosted solution (no cloud based solutions). How can I do this? Any recommendations?

I am willing to rewrite the program in a similar language, any advice is appreciated.

Seems like a database solution (like Microsoft Access or SQL) would be a better option here.
Those options are much more geared to multiple people writing/updating to the same data tables at the same time.
