Yes, you have my gratitude as well. Each Veteran's Day I do try to make a point of saying "thank you" to anyone I know that is a veteran.

The sad thing is that as time passes, more and more of the younger generation becomes unaware of the significance of remembrance day. Perhaps we who remember should take it on ourselves to pass the knowledge on to the next generation.

It was quite disconcerting to see that at 11:11 am today, not one person in our office got up to stand in silence for a minute.

Our building made an announcement over the fire system PA for two minutres of silence, I work in a 47 floor tower. I was nice to see/hear.

Riaz, my kids (primary school age) attended the local remembrance day service at the cenotaph with the rest of their school. Not as big a turn out as we get on ANZAC day, which seems to be getting stronger every year, but still, they know what it's about.

Here in the Bay Area (San Francisco) no one seemed to notice (other than traffic was light), which chaps my a$$. In San Diego, where a large portion of our military is based (and I used to work), it's a different story.

My father-in-law served in the South Pacific during WWII, and many of my now deceased great uncles, grandfather, etc., fought in Europe. A few weeks ago my Dad showed me the pocket watch he inherited that came from a great grandfather who had fought in the Civil War.

My hat goes off to them and the brave men and women worldwide who have and will continue fighting for all of us.

I wish more of us were like my boss' brother.
