left function error

Hi,
I have the time value 10:30 in cell A1.
I am trying to split the hours and minuets into separate cells. if I use the function =LEFT(A1,2) I get a return of 0. I am trying to get a return of 10.
If I use =RIGHT(A1,2) I get a return of 375 I am trying to gat 30
All cells are formatted as time
Please help

You're over-thinking it

=Hour(A1) and
=Minute(A1)

Should give you what you want.
