I'm looking to learn how to write my own Macros for excel. Whats the best way to go about doing this? any suggestions on books or websites?

Thanks!

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Well, I may not be impartial, but I think this web site is a pretty good source for Excel/macro related questions!

Regarding books, if you take a look at the MrExcel store, there are a number of good books there. I have also heard great things about John Walkenbach's books. I personally learned a lot using "Excel 2000 VBA" by John Green from Wrox Press.

If you do a search on this forum, you will see this same question asked a bunch of times before, and you may be able to find some other good books and web sites that others have recommended in the past too.

Thanks Joe. I agree -- this forum has been extremely helpful -- and being that I'm familiar with C++ and general coding languages, a lot of my learning has been through guess/check and tweaking other macros. I'd like to learn as much as possible, though, as I want to be able to be on the 'helping' side of this forum asap.

Regards,
Jared

Jared,

If you know other programming languages, you are halfway there.
The logic is very similar to other languages, just a different syntax. Having a background in programming, you will probably pick it up rather quickly.

You may find that Wrox Press book I mentioned useful, as it is a Programmer's Reference (though I would look for the most recent version - 2000 is probably a little outdated by now).

When I first came here, I was a novice at Excel VBA too. Just by using that book, and reading a lot of threads here on this forum, I learned most of what I now know of Excel VBA.
