Brad H wrote in to say that he has developed a cool application in Excel for tracking your finances. My first question to Brad: "Why would you do this, when Quicken or Mint already does this so well?" The answer is that some people are more comfortable in Excel (and I can certainly understand that). Plus, Brad's program is only $20 USD. In Episode #1395, we will take a quick look at 'XLYourFinances.com: personal finance software for Excel'.

Learn Excel from MrExcel podcast. Episode 1395 - XL Your Finances.
Hey welcome back to the MrExcel netcast. I'm Bill Jelen.
We are doing something little bit different today.
Taking a look at many of the products available out there for Excel. XLYourFINANCES Now I've been asked before actually people have hired me before to try and rewrite quicken in Excel.
and i always just walk away because you can get quicken for 49 bucks but some people are intimidated by quicken.
Some people just don't like the fact that you know quicken goes dead after a couple of years.
and you have to give more money to into it.
So i got a note from Brad Brad has been regular at the MrExcel message board.
and Brad has taken the time to do personal finance in Excel and he has it out there.
Its a nice little 20 dollar product.
XLYourFINANCES.COM I've downloaded the spreadsheet with some sample data and he has done a really really nice job.
Does it work as well as quicken? Well it the data in from your bank's website where you are going to download it as a CSV file.
Depending on your bank might have changed things around a little bit.
Handles budgeting, lots of nice reports comparing this year to last year.
He really has done a nice job and for 20 bucks might be a great way to go.
And another benefit your data is in ecxel.
All right try and get a report out of quicken or quick books into excel and that always is a nightmare those extra blank columns there anyway here your data is in excel.
He's written plenty or macros and he's used it himself has a great little website out there.
XLYourFINANCES.COM with examples.
20 bucks if you are looking for a great way to track your personal finances, do budgeting and the whole bit might be a great way to go. So check that out.
XLYourFINANCES.COM Alright hey I want to thank you for stopping by. Will see you next time from another netcast from MrExcel.
