Phoebe from Florida has a spreadsheet where gridlines are missing from just one section of the worksheet. Today, two theories on how that happened, how to fix it, and, since we are covering gridlines, how to toggle gridlines off and on for the whole workbook and how to change the gridlines to an annoying red color.

Gridlines are missing from just one section of the worksheet.
Hey welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen.
Today's question is sent in by Phoebe.
Phoebe was actually in one of my live seminars.
Phoebe has a spreadsheet and the gridlines are there except for in one particular section of the spreadsheet see there are no gridlines right there and I said all right here is my guess of what happened at some point in the history of the spreadsheet.
Someone took a range like this and on the Home tab they highlighted the range like they chose some sort of a color and out of the block and then at a future point someone wanted to get rid of those colors, and what they did is they select the same range.
Open the drop down and chose white to get rid of the colors, but that doesn't do what we wanted to do because that applies a white fill just like applying any of these other colors would apply a fill and so, the right way to get rid of that color that had been there.
The orange was to come down here and choose No Fill, you see when I choose no fill the gridlines show through.
All right, when there's no fill the gridlines show through So, what I suggested was just select the whole range and then come here and say no fill or if there's other colors you want to keep just find that place without the gridlines and open this up and change from the white color to no fill and you'll be good to go.
Now, that's the most likely possibility there's other options here, it's possible that someone had selected the entire range and then did all borders, like that or even went into more borders, and you know came up with a really large border and then later on someone else came along and said now, we want no borders.
All right! So now, we have these, these aren't gridlines, these are actually borders and someone did turn those on.
So, if that's the situation.
All right, simple enough choose all borders and that comes back, like that or you know if gridlines were missing everywhere, then back here on the View tab there's a checkbox of whether we show gridlines or not.
So, it's possible that if grid lines are gone everywhere, they just had to uncheck that, but the way the Phoebe described the problem there were gridlines than most of the sheet just missing from the sheet and since we're covering gridlines today.
Let's cover the world's most obnoxious use of gridlines.
You know we, we who use Excel.
We love the gridlines, right?
Gridlines are good, and they're that nice.
Grey color back there, but I ran into someone. This was back at my last age up 15 years ago.
I walked up to her Excel and her grid lines were the angry red color, and it was just manning, like what are you doing or actually I said, how did you do that?
Now so, to change the color of the gridlines for the sheet we go to File and then Options, go to Advanced and we'll scroll down here, right there, Display options for this worksheet.
So, you're about 60% of the way down show gridlines and then gridline color you can choose any of these different gridline colors.
So, if you want to you know drive your co-workers crazy, send them a spreadsheet or you've changed just the nice automatic light grey grid lines to some other color. There you go.
I want to thank Phoebe for sending that question, and I wanna thank you for stopping by.
We'll see you next time for another netcast MrExcel.
