Learn Excel From MrExcel Podcast, Excel 2013 Preview The Excel App Store.
Hey. Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast. I'm Bill Jelen from MrExcel.
All week, we’ve been taking a look at some of the great things in Excel 2013, and of course there'll be a lot more, but let's take a look here.
You know, I said that you're signed in, right, so it knows who I am, there's my picture up there.
If I want to go to INSERT, ILLUSTRATIONS, PICTURES, or ONLINE PICTURES, and online pictures offers from my SkyDrive, a BING IMAGE SEARCH [ for Creative Commons by the way – 00:34 ], or anything I have at Flicker, alright?
So, I can choose one of my Flickr photo streams, INSERT, downloads it, puts it right in.
Now, I have a good story about this but that will be a story for another day.
The other great thing here on the INSERT tab, APPS FOR OFFICE, alright?
So, if you have an iPhone or Android, you have an app store.
Well, now, we have an Excel app store.
This is so cool.
You can go out and buy cheap little applications.
Bing Maps, that's free.
This is awesome.
This is a little bit of JavaScript here that's going to be able to interact with my spreadsheet.
Get that.
It's going to take data in cells in the spreadsheet, go out to the web, and pull something back in, and you, if you know a little bit of JavaScript, can write these yourself.
This is going to be so cool.
People are going to be able to come up with all kinds of cool apps for the spreadsheet.
So, SELECT LOCATIONS FROM A COLUMN AND OPTIONALLY INCLUDE ONE OR MORE ADJACENT DATA COLUMNS AND CLICK ON THE PIN ICON.
So, here's 3 locations, click on the pin, and they go out to Bing Maps and show those items.
Isn't that incredible?
Free.
This is just one of, I’m going to guess, thousands of little apps that will be added and available in the app store.
Makes me want to go out and buy a book on JavaScript so that way I can start doing all kinds of cool things, alright?
So, APPS FOR OFFICE, great way to extend the functionality of Office and, again, this is so cool.
I bought this app…bought.
It was free.
I got this app up where I write, and I came back here and went to APPS FOR OFFICE, SEE ALL, clicked REFRESH, clicked OFFICE STORE, and it sees everything I bought on the other machine and downloads it to this machine -- so very well thought out, the whole APPS FOR OFFICE.
Got to love that.
I want to thank you for stopping by.
We’ll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
