Language in Access

I have an interface program which accepts input and write into an Access database.
This work well in English Access, however, I encountered a problem in one of the Japanese Access. The input was in English but after saving, it showed funny characters such as squares.. etc.
This does not happen in all Japanese Access but only one.

I would like to know, could this be due to some language settings in the Access? Appreciate any help/suggestions.
